The Health Survey in Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, St. Olavs Hospital, Trondheim University Hospital, is a study of a defined clinical population assessed at two time points; T1 (2009-11) and T2 (2012-14). The main objective is to obtain knew knowledge on mechanisms and correlates of mental health problems in adolescence and assess longitudinal pathways for psychiatric illness and treatment outcome.
At T1, the study population included 717 participants. Clinical diagnoses (ICD-10) were collected from medical records and clinical measurements included weight, height, hip- and waistline, and cell samples from the buccal mucosa for genetic analyses. Participants and parents responded to questionnaires. Because a significant portion of the methods are identical to those used in a population-based community study in the same region (The Young-HUNT 3), cohort design analyses can be completed.
At T2, 570 participants (83% of eligible) completed the follow-up questionnaire, and 550 (80%) completed a diagnostic interview.
The study protocol for the baseline data collection was approved by the Regional Committee for Medical and Health Research Ethics (T1: 4.2008.1393, T2: 2011/1435/REK Midt), the Biobank Register, and the Norwegian Social Science Data Services.
